Disney Accessibility Service (DAS)

By Dream Maker
The Walt Disney World resort prides itself on being an all-ages, all-encompassing vacation that will allow anyone to make magical memories that will last a lifetime. One of the ways this can be achieved is through their “Disney Accessibility Service” (or DAS) which allows Guests who have difficulty tolerating extended waits in a conventional queue environment a way to experience all the attractions the Walt Disney World Resort has to offer.

What is Disney Accessibility Service (DAS)?

DAS is a system that works similar to a virtual queue in which registered users can schedule a return time that is comparable to the current queue wait for an attraction within the theme parks. Instead of waiting in a typical line/queue, the user can explore other areas of the resort such as shops, restaurants,
or themed lands. Once they have virtually waited for the posted queue time, they can return to the ride and use the Lightning Lane entrance for a more manageable wait.

Who is eligible for Disney Accessibility Service (DAS)?

Eligibility requirements are set directly by the Walt Disney World resort and anyone who believes they may benefit from the program is welcome to schedule a consultation virtually with a DAS Cast Member who will deem if the criteria is met for access to the program. DAS is designed specifically for those who
have difficulty tolerating extended waits in a conventional queue environment. Mobility issues like use of a wheelchair or other limitations with physical mobility are not eligible for DAS, but there are other programs for those with mobility disabilities.

How does the Disney Accessibility Service (DAS)work?

The DAS system is broken down into 2 basic categories.

The first category is advanced reservations which are scheduled attractions made during DAS registration with the DAS Cast Member before the vacation. Each DAS user gets two advanced registrations per day of the vacation, and some exclusions apply.

The second category is day of reservations made via the My Disney Experience app in which users can book their attractions on a one-by-one basis during the duration of the park day. Most attractions are included in this program with the only exclusions being attractions utilizing virtual queues in lieu of a
traditional standby line.

A firsthand report.

On a recent trip I took to the Walt Disney World Resort we had a party member who was eligible for the service, and we decided to use it for the first time. In using it for all 4 parks throughout our vacation I can confidently say this is a real game changer for those with issues that can be exasperated by standing
in line for extended periods of time. For anyone who is used to Fastpass or Fastpass+ (no longer in use), or the current iteration of Genie+ and Lightning Lane the DAS experience is very similar in many ways. You pick your attraction, get your return time, and enter the Lightning Lane once your time arrives. The simplicity of the App and booking system mixed with the helpfulness of all Cast Members lends itself to a very user-friendly experience. On my recent 4-day vacation my party was able to experience multiple attractions we hadn’t typically been able to experience due to issues with waiting in long queues including Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Flight of Passage, Slinky Dog Dash, and Rise of the Resistance.

My final thoughts.

DAS provides a great opportunity for guests who need it to experience all the wonderful attractions on offer regardless of their limitations, and for this simple fact I give it 2 giant thumbs up. It’s because of programs like this that Disney continues to keep families coming back year after year to make more and more magical memories.

May all your journeys be magical,
